If you like your blues with a distinct funky backbone then Popa Chubby should be on your radar.

This year marks Popa's 25th anniversary of life on life on the road and he's recorded more than a dozen albums to tell his side of the story.

On this album, recorded in his home studio, the guitarman is joined by singer Dana Fuchs, who takes the opening track Come to Me up a few notches.

Mike Zito from Royal Southern Brotherhood joins in on Rock on Bluesman, but I felt it was over the top with each player trying to score points in a guitar showdown.

Much better is One Leg At A Time which swings along with a really great groove and tasty solo.

The title track is so cool and funky, with heavy wah wah guitar, New Orleans style lyrics., and excellent drums. The playing throughout is crisp.

The closing track, The Way It Is, is described as an "urban soul ballad" and it is one of the more soulful cuts on this excellent album.

Superb funk blues rock from a larger than life character.
