Gorgeously grungy, twangy guitars from Matty White kick this EP off before seconds later Jen Pickering adds her sultry, soulful vocals, instantly you're hooked. "You Always Want What You Can't Have" mines heavily the rockabilly style of The White Stripes and Imelda May. Pickering White though dig deeper and find richer seams and sounds.

There's an incredible energy here, coupled with a joy that comes out of the speakers grabs you and refuses to let you go. Driving the sound along at 100 m.p.h. are the rhythm section of Jamie Mountford on bass and Charlie Steele on drums. It's like a rollercoaster of a ride - scream if you want to go faster. I defy you not to.

All the tracks on this release from the Staffordshire based band are self penned and cover sassy on the street situations and relationships from a female point of view in a high octane rhythm & blues style. It's infectious, it's fun.

Pickering White on this showing are rising stars, they have appeared live in session on BBC Radio One and I doubt it will be long before some label offers them a deal if they continue in this fashion.

To conclude, if it is as they say "You Always Want What You Can't Have", then that'll only be because they haven't yet released an album.
