Artist:The Magic City Trio This excellent Americana band suggest their inspiration is taken from pre-war country music. You can immediately hear this running through the heart of their eponymous album.
They are about to complete their 250th gig together. This alone should be applauded but this experience does show it in the song writing and performance which is engaging throughout the duration of the second part of this two-album release (the first part being issued some years ago).
I can clearly hear the influence of Johnny Cash and classic country artists but some suggestion of the Divine Comedy and even The Magic Numbers at times. The persistent feeling I experience with this album is that I wish I could see them live as I think they would be a lot of fun.
My standout tracks from the album are A Box of Broken Jewels and Our Life in Chains but there is a consistency and vibrancy to this album that warrants further exploration. The website is very informative and even gives song lyrics which Is relatively rare but very helpful.
