Sally Strawberry has been performing since the early 1990's, writing and playing with established artists in a variety of styles, including dance, blues, ambient and alternative, whilst her live work has included successful tours across France and the UK.
Looking back through her website and social media, it seems her debut album 'Remember Me' has been a long time coming, so it's release and supporting live shows will undoubtedly be welcomed.
Opening track 'Hear You Lie' shuffles in on sparse percussion and keyboard stabs and with Sally's vocal floating over the top of the mix it conjures up a real Trip Hop vibe.
Title song 'Remember Me' slows the pace down a tad but with Sally's voice still to the fore, 'Garde La Clé' is all moody bass and sultry phrasing, 'Balance' follows the same sort of pacing initially but picks up rather pleasingly on another burbling bass line, then 'Target Practice' pulses through on a fine drum track.
The rest of the album continues along the lines of the opening five tracks and other standouts for me are the sassy double bass led 'Vultures' and the elegant piano voicings of penultimate song 'You'll Stay Young'.
To my ears, over the length of an album 'Remember Me' suffers slightly from all the songs being similarly paced and arranged, but there's no doubt that taken individually each song stands up on its own merits and this is a fine introduction to the work of Sally Strawberry.
