Nicole Maguire is certainly a force to be reckoned with- she has been writing songs since age 12 and has been performing live since just 15, playing opening slots for anyone who'd let her. Now in her mid 20s, she counts Paul Brady, Nanci Griffiths and Damien Dempsey among her fans and has a self-funded album produced by Mitchell Froom. Her love and passion for music is evident in her songs, despite none of her immediate family playing any instruments, and her talent is evident in her rolling guitar riffs and emotional lyricism.

The album's title song 'What You Really Mean' is a wonderful love song reminiscent of the beguiling romanticism of Californian songwriters, and 'Don't Let Me Go' is a melancholy track that makes it the perfect closing song for the album. Extra depth to the album is added by Elvis Costello drummer Peter Thomas and the award winning Vonda Shepard on backing vocals. 'With You' has a charming guitar line and is the catchiest song on the album, with it's easy-going pace and relaxing lyrics.

All in all this album is a great choice for those who are looking for something easy to listen to, and the soothing clarity of Maguire's voice is sure to make this a hit on the folk circuit.
