Every now and then you get a cd that comes into the office without a lot of info in the envelope that it comes in and that was the case with "Deeper In Debt" the new single from John Wheeler.

On first play, I really liked what I was hearing, and pretty much on every subsequent play. The song is a classic slice of political Americana, in many ways it captures all of the politics of "Sixteen Tons" and gives them a twenty first century make over, grand stuff indeed, but there was also something that I couldn't quite place, something familiar, but not quite in context.

A trip back to the envelope pretty much revealed all that I was looking for, duh. John Wheeler is the lead singer of Hayseed Dixie and currently on a solo sabbatical from the band. A New album, "Un-American Gothic", hits the streets next year and will include an acoustic cover of "Eton Rifles".

"Deeper In Debt" shows that there is a lot more to John Wheeler than a covers artist, albeit a highly unconventional one, but then we always knew that was the case. Enjoy the single, enjoy the tour, anticipate the album.
