Heidi Talbot
Hailing back to her days in Cherish The Ladies, Heidi Talbot, has always been surround by superb musicians, producers and performers, all to give her incredible voice the opportunity to shine in the best possible environment. If you can imagine Heidi as a fine bone china vase, you can put it in a display cabinet or stick it on a shelf, it's the same bone china vase, but it shows its best in the right environment and Heidi really understands that. The important thing is that she keeps her feet firmly on the ground and her head out of the clouds.
"Angels Without Wings" Is an album packed to the gills with fine songs, tunes and musicianship, from the likes of Ian Carr, John McCusker, Boo Hewerdine, Michael McGoldrick and Phil Cunningham, with guest performances from the likes of Mark Knopfler, Jerry Douglas and Julie Fowlis and rightly Heidi voice still manages to shine.
This is an album of both traditional and contemporary songs, the album carries the word folk like a badge of honour and importantly remembers that it's a living tradition, one that takes in and absorbs new influences that allows performers to create their own distinct style, their own trademark and this album definitely ticks that box.
Even amongst the eleven excellent tracks that grace "Angels Without Wings", there are two that are really jaw-dropping, "The Loneliest" and "My Sister The Moon", the latter of the two being a track I've lost myself in time and time again.
Heidi Talbot is a real star and "Angels Without Wings" has all that star quality infused running right through it. I've seen Heidi perform live on many occasions and she has a fantastic natural feel, the great thing is she brings that touch to her recorded work and "My Sister The Moon" I can still feel the shivers on my spine.
