There's a reason why the acoustic singer-songwriter genre remains such a successful one - it's a versatile beast. At its core, all song writing is based around a chord pattern and vocal melody, and what's layered over the top can make a huge difference to the overall sound.

In the case of Billie Myers' new LP, what's layered over the top is a great mix of styles - some folky, some blues, even electronica - which breathes life into her take on the singer-songwriter market.

Opener 'Lady Jane' is perhaps one of the more straightforward indie-rock tracks, with a solid groove, drop out sections and great dynamics. This is swiftly followed by lead single 'Wonderful', which brings in an almost electronic opening, a strong chorus and a real upbeat feel.

From there, the LP snakes off in several directions, song by song, from the looped electronic opening of 'Send Me An Angel' which gives way to a percussive verse and chorus structure. Later, 'No Regrets Allowed' features a more country/roots feel. Just a couple of the examples of Myers taking the acoustic genre and embellishing it with a host of different approaching.

The result is a solid album of varied sound, all married to a strong, consistent vocal. This is one LP that's well worth a look.
