Steve Ignorant's 'Slice of Life' Steve Ignorant, one of punk-rock's most anarchic icons, famed for his dissent and sheer contempt for 'The System', front man and head agitator with CRASS and Conflict and co-conspirator with numerous others brings us his acoustic project 'Slice of Life', ten tracks, all as you'd expect self penned on the wonderful 'Love And The Lamp-post'.
Steve Ignorant has surely one of the most recognisable voices in the punk rock genre, and though over the years he appears to have mellowed a little in delivery, his passion, his belief, and his utter disgust at what unfolds around him is still as obvious and inspirational as ever 'you ask me: would I fight for my country? -and I tell you I'm already at war, against a mass mentality and attitude that threatens my life, and yours.....' It's all there, and it's good to know that people like Steve Ignorant are still as vociferous at a time when so may are at risk from the cruel, cold world that unfolds around them on a daily basis.....when times are hard, great songs are written, musical disobedience is at it's most prolific....here we have a selection of raw edged protagonist gems!
Steve's is backed by the most gentle, haunting vocals of Carol Hodge, whose wonderful piano punctuates to perfection throughout; Pete Wilson's acoustic guitar lines offer depth while remain understated and Lucas Martin's stand-up base is subtle and sympathetic....this is beautifully cultured, yet equally hard hitting. The contrast between the gentle folk infused strains and the no nonsense subject matter work to perfection...this is a celebration of good sense, relevant, articulate, yet amusing at times, and down right bloody pertinent throughout! this is a wondrous marriage of folk and punk, though not in the manner that we have all become so accustomed, this is something very different, very engaging and palatable.....this is nigh on perfection!!!!
Live performance of the project are gathering momentum. The audiences largely those of the punk rock fraternity accepting this unholy alliance of folk musicians and punk rock firebrand, embracing this union and all that it stands for! and so should we all...this is an absolute treasure trove of lyrical acumen, musical inspiration, and undeniably captures 'A Slice Of Life' perfectly as seen through the eyes of the one and only Steve Ignorant!
