I confess I'm a big fan the music of Jon Palmer's acoustic band.. I've seen them live numerous times and he does have a knack of producing a singalong chorus to almost every song he writes. The selection of songs on this album are no exception to this and the title track right through to the conclusion of the album will have you singing along very quickly indeed.

The subject matter is dealt with with northern honesty and where politics enter the music there is a certain amount of humour as well. His dislike of our current political leaders is delivered at a well judged pub level rather than observing the solemnity the subject matter deserves, 'He forgets things he shouldn't oughta, first the poor and then his daughter!' is a particular favourite of mine.

The songs are well crafted, drawing from an eclectic number of roots ranging from Irish folk through to country standards and are beautifully arranged. There is a considerable amount of musical prowess on show from the whole band. This indeed is a joyful noise and I would have no hesitation in recommending this album to anyone who likes up beat contemporary folk music.
