This is a five track sampler from Ben Smith, a guitar player and singer who is getting noticed. Which is fine by me because he can sure play and sing.

As an introduction to this young man this EP is very good. It kicks off with Let Me Down Easy, a lilting song with a lovely John Martyn-vibe, and some neat bass from Ismael Sanchez.

The love song, I Don't Believe in Angels shows Ben's softer side. Then he opens up with a guitar tour de force in Junco Partner, where he really sizzles.

Then we go down to another slow burner, Keep Holding My Hand, which showcases the gentler side of Ben's strong vocals.

The upbeat Suddenly Lovely is the most commercial track here. It has a catchy hook and is fine way to end this insight into Ben Smith.

Ben is currently supporting Joan Armatrading on some of her UK gigs. Try and catch him if you can.
