Whilst neither Kim Guy or Steve Hunt, the core constituent parts of Corncrow, are not natives of Cornwall, they appear to have absorbed the influences of the county very much into their hearts, not just via their song selection on "So Brightly Shining", the album includes the local, to them, standard "Meriasek", always an enchanting piece, especially when combined with soaring recorder, giving the song an earthy feel, one that feels in balance with it's environment, but through the attitude that comes across.

Drechtly is the Cornish word for manyana, and there is definitely a laid back, relaxed feel to the album and as everyone who has put up a hammock knows, to find a state of truly relaxed takes a lot of hard work and you can feel that dripping out of every music pore, along every stage.

Kim and Steve, both have voices that capture a sense of being at one with the music and when brought together is really something very special indeed. That's something you really hook into on "The Road To Marazion" a dirty blues song that shows up unexpectedly midway through the album and which emphasises Corncrow's ability to surprise as well as turn their hands to other parts of the acoustic spectrum.

"So Brightly Shining" may only be some eight tracks long, but it more than makes up for that in the quality of the performance, extending that length out with the delighted appreciation of the listener. Hopefully this album will give Corncrow a wider recognition that they would definitely have if talent alone were enough to ensure success.

This is an album that makes you feel at one with it, you become absorbed into it, relax into if you will and from there the songs flow into your consciousness. Check out the duo's version of "Chicken On A Raft" to find your way into the album's philosophy. Recommended? Oh yes!
