Artist:Tommy Hale Tommy is an American singer/songwriter who is currently touring the USA in support of his new album. I really enjoyed this, it reminded me of Iggy Pop meets the Strokes, the guitars are gloriously low and fuzzy in the mix, somehow in the background but also weaving their way with their licks into your soul. The first track ’The Cardplayer’ is a great single, I think that the lower register really suits Tommy's voice, which at times reminds me of Lou Reed.
‘Beauty in the Darkness’ has a great 80’s feel to it with a glorious trembled guitar, it reminded me of ’Twin Peaks’, you can envisage the dark forrest of America and the traveller passing through motels in search of ’something lost and almost found’ - a very atmospheric track. ‘How the Story Goes’ sounds like the Stones, and I think Tommy is really enjoying his Mick Jagger strut, it sounds great complete with the mock cockney backing vocals from Dartford, USA!
All in all I’d recommend this record because I think Tommy is having fun and you can tell, he’s living and breathing the characters and having a ball. Sometimes that’s enough…
