Habadekuk
Sing it loud! "Summer is a coming in, Summer is a coming in." How can you tell? I hear you ask. Well, because the new albums from the big party/festival bands are starting to come in. You know the ones, driving fiddles and squeezeboxes, up-tempo dance tunes, horns and a feel good atmosphere. Even album names bring smiley images to the mind and "Hopsadaddy" from Habadekuk is all that and more.
Habadekuk is a Danish nine piece with that big band sound rooted in folk music, jigs, polkas and waltzes, which means, that by and large, they've been ignored by radio in their own country, but they've definitely not been ignored by the peoples of Scandinavia and other parts of mainland Europe where their, 'let's have a good time' mentality have driven them into public hearts.
They're one of those bands that can really get things going and you never quite know where they are going next, a jazzy jig or a rough house shanty, the band can knock out excitement across the board as thousands that saw them get thousands of rock fans eating out of their hands at a recent festival in their Danish homeland will attest.
"Hopsadaddy" is good old fashioned fun. It's a great album for lifting the spirits and waking the dead if things have got that far.(Their June tour features a date in Crawley, so that theory can easily be put to the test). If you don't get the chance to check them out live, do get yourself a copy of the album, Habadekuk are definitely worth a listen.
