Skinner and T'witch are a Leeds-based folk duo. Their debut album is Rise.

They describe their music as "driving rhythms, strong vocals harmonies and a flamenco-inspired guitar style".

The songs are all written by guitarist Steve Skinner, on the album he is joined by additional guitarist Mike Jordan and cello from Robin Woollam.

The basic format relies on strong harmonies, with the voices weaving together, and they work well.

However some of the songs fall into the trap of using too many minor chords, which give an overwhelming soft melancholy feel, especially with the addition of the cello.

The more upbeat songs, such as God, where are you? are more accessible and enjoyable.

But the concept of using mainly voices and a nylon guitar means overall the songs struggle to pack a punch, despite this pair's sterling efforts. The underlying softness may intrigue some but 'fraid not me.
