Consisting of two Daniels and a Sheena, Red Moon Road are a Canadian Folk Trio whose debut tour over here brought with it the band's self-titled debut, an album which had been released back home a couple of years back and which through plays on internet radio station, had begun leaching into the folk consciousness on this side of the pond.

There is an up tempo feel to the band's music and which has a quirkiness that stays, for the most part on the endearing side of the spectrum, but occasionally takes a sharp turn towards the twee, though fortunately at decently spaced intervals.

Vocal leads are swapped throughout the record, constantly changing the dynamic of the harmonies and also never allowing for any complacent moments to settle in. You get the impression that live the trio easily move from between song banter to actual song with a smooth familiarity that's formed by tight friendships rather than rehearsal. That change of dynamic is further enhanced on the first play when you unexpectedly bounce off the only track on the album, "Qu'allons-nous Faire" recorded in French.

I'd like to think a follow up album is not too far down the pipe as I like what I'm hearing, but it's also one of those frustrating albums that hints that there is better to come and I love to hear if they can fulfil those expectations they've raised.
