Bursting with characteristic vigour Glasgow's finest rockers Gun return with their ten track offering 'Frantic'; flawless, engaging, and entertaining as ever! This is a band with a fine reputation, a CV to die for and a partisan fan base.....a fan base which recently ensured 3 shows at King Tut's, the legendary Glasgow venue, sold out in the space of 15 minutes flat!

The album opens, possibly as unexpectedly as is humanly possible, with the (almost) gospelesque 'Let it Shine'...a distinctively up beat and uplifting pop rock chant-a-long, fit to grace any mainstream radio show indeed, and possibly an attempt to engage a new audience!? Following that 'Labour of Life' offers further pop-rock excellence whilst 'Beautiful Smile' employs grinding blues riffs and thumping drums for a much harder rock feel! From then on it's back to a more tried and tested formula for the remaining tracks....almost country edged rock with a raw enough edge to ensure there is no danger of falling in to THAT void, that 'middle of the road, easy listening, sugar coated, soft rock' void!

There's not a great deal here that is particularly new, but if it ain't broke, well it don't need fixing then, or words to that effect! Big production, big sing along choruses, big guitar noise, big drummage , all match that big reputation more than adequately! A decent listen all in all, quality writing and playing, quality melodies, so what more could we ask from a band that delighted so many of us with that sensational 'Word Up!' cover version all those years ago...wait a minute! Twenty one years ago!
