Barbara Nesbitt "Almost Home" is actually Georgia native, Barbara Nesbitt's third solo release although she is a new name to me. Several years ago she moved to Texas where she formed her own band, The Whiskey Sisters and also works with Tim O'Flannery. She now splits her time between them, and her solo endeavours.
Almost home was recorded in Austin, Texas, and features an array of talented musicians; Jeff Berkley (one half of Berkley Hart, familiar to Eve Selis fans!) Marcia Claire, Mike Spurgat, Bill Coomes, Bukka Allen, Dennis Caplinger, Kim DesChamps, and Kyle Clayton
In "Like a Good Girl Should", Barbara unusually identifies her own mistakes; "shut my mouth, put the bottle down and behave like a good girl should". ""Never Been in Love" is a striking, memorable song, whilst "Sweetest Waste of Time" carries echoes of old style country duets.
Vocally, Nesbitt demonstrates an unusual combination of youthfulness and maturity; sensitivity and edginess. Definitely distinctive.
Having recently toured in the UK, she played very near to me; unfortunately I was unable to attend, so am very much hoping she returns to the UK and South Shields very soon.
