First album proper from Swedish 5-piece Thisell and we're well into the realms of modern Americana influenced folk here. For reference points think Fleet Foxes but erring more on the side of traditional folk in terms of the instrumentation.

It's a perfectly pleasant record which is as dreamily listenable as its peers with opening track 'A Town Of Windows' setting the stall out perfectly. It's perhaps unfortunate that the subtleties and nuances of a band like this are probably best experienced live but there's more than enough here to suggest Thisell would be definitely more than worth purchasing a ticket for.

It's a saturated playing field when it comes to modern folk music but Thisell do enough to rise above the line marked average and it'll be interesting to hear how the sound progresses on the follow-up record (II) in the autumn.
