Sue is well known as a floor singer at many Yorkshire folk clubs as well as at Festival sing-a-rounds but she is also a not infrequent performer at Charity Concerts performing either solo or with her regular accompanist Paul Cockerham; Sue has also sung with the well-respected group Bad Habit. Anyone who has met her will instantly recognise the big beaming smile and friendly banter. None of this prepares one for the polish and professionalism of her debut CD "Dunn and Dusted". The eleven tracks would do credit to many a much more "professional" performer.

The tracks range through traditional folk and country classics to popular contemporary works from some of the best known singer songwriters around. Opening with the Colclough's haunting "Song for Ireland" through John Denver's "Country Roads" to Dolly Parton's "Jolene", with a lot of great stuff in between, each track is arranged to showcase a pleasant voice honed by more than two decades of public performance. No doubt all the listeners to this CD will have a personal favourite, I'm torn between the traditional "Silver Dagger" and Thompson's "Crazy Man Michael" but each one is delivered with a panache and a clarity that makes the whole CD so enjoyable.

Sue is accompanied by a host of talent that includes Michael Cockerham on a plethora of instruments, Paul Cockerham on acoustic guitar, Sarah Mallinson on keyboard, Barry Smith on whistle and flute, Mathew Sugden on bass guitar, Bobby Voltaire on percussion. The CD has been produced locally by Michael Cockerham at his Syke Lane Studios, Dewsbury.

This CD is a must for any collection of good folk music. At £5 (plus £2.90 p&p) it is an amazing bargain too, especially when you know that £5 of that will be going to a national charity for tackling eye disease.
