Having released his last couple of album's under his own name, Essex singer-songwriter, Johnno Casson once again unleashes his alter ego Snippet for his new album "D.I.Y." and as with all alter egos it gives him an opportunity to take those bigger risks.

"D.I.Y." is a combination of conventional songs, though with a more electronic form than he uses when he records under his own name, and sound poems that really allow him to explore presenting lyrics and ideas in a way that you can't indulge when delivering a more traditional style.

Hands up, there are times when the sound of some of those poems, such as "Comics" grates more than a little. I'd even go as far as saying that if you're looking for an instant musical fix, than you are looking in the wrong place. "D.I.Y." is an album that takes a certain amount of acquiring. It's not a brash showroom piece; this is an album that's been constructed out of ideas, rather than following a distinct pattern Daliesque if you like.

The thing about looking at a Dali, is that there are so many different aspects captured, that you can get your head around, without ever truly getting the whole and Snippet takes that spirit into his music. The songs do have a connectivity, but it's not always easy to see the join. "D.I.Y." is an album that will challenge, it will take your eye off the ball, but at the end of the day you'll appreciate that sometimes when you push the envelope you end up with an, odd shaped, but wonderful, paper balloon.
