Phil G Band and "Eureka" have a sound that seems to straddle that pop rock sound that sort of reminds me of the Black Country Bands of the mid-seventies, a feeling that can't help but grow as you listen to "Looking For Blue Jay Way", the opening track. The actual title track doesn't kick in until track two, which by current trends seems to be quite early in the mix.

As an album "Eureka" is predominantly up-tempo and relatively simple in its construction. It feels like an album to be enjoyed rather than examined in depth trying to find hidden meanings tucked away in the lyrics and it works very well on that level, with all the songs coming from Phil Gibbons and Marco Degiorgi

That's something that's enhanced by the frothy nature of the instrumentation; this is an album that has that lighter fun aspect to it. I don't mean this in a derogatory way, but there is definitely an element of the fairground to "Eureka", it's something to have fun with, candy floss, and waltzers.

There also happen to be some great blues riffs that emerge from the sound, that hook you in and keep you engaged. "Eureka" is an album that has plenty of moments of discovery. It's easy to listen to and whilst it's never going to challenge your intellect, it's an album that will fire off the pleasure centres and allow you to step outside of the grind and simply enjoy the moment for what it is.
