There's an old adage around Fatea that states that one side of a Cajun album is always enough and this holds true for the six tracks on Venez Danser the EP from Canadian four piece Oh My Darling - but only just.

Following on from 2011's full length album Sweet Nostalgia, Venez Danser is sung entirely in French and is inspired by the music and history of the Franco-Métis people and is a solid, if uninspired, collection that combines Cajun, Acadien, and Quebecois styles.

It is something of a departure from their previous Appalachian / bluegrass / Old Time mix and I suspect that it will be a short lived one. The songs do everything you expect them to, but no more and whilst their playing is still sharp, vocally there is nothing to compare with Cage Bird or Love Me Love Me Not.
