Life experience runs through Will Boyd-Wallis and Greenshanks, thirty years working and caring for moorlands, mountains and woodlands has gone into STORMBIRD. There is a great connection to place running through this set by Greenshanks.

Track one "Fistful Of Sand", a triumphant upbeat guitar and double bass celebration, runs deeper still based on familial memories of Greenshanks' great great grandfather leaving Rum for Nova Scotia and New Zealand. Listen out for Ross Ainsley's stunning low whistle too. That lovely dialogue between Will's nimble guitar and James Lindsay's double bass continues on. "Ballad Of Billy and Eilidh" with some fine slide from Iain Forrest. Boyd-Wallis / Greenshanks has a effortless and relaxed vocal that is almost conversational. "Sandstone", a regret filled love song about a modern day selkie, with its talking blues intro and tender singing is a standout track. Hamish Napier's flowing piano and Becky Doe's violin add a mellow Nick Drake sophistication. Beautifully sequenced "Into The Open", another firm favourite, continues that warm reflective ambience with a fine vocal, superb chorus and a feeling of optimism and escape. Like Blake clasping infinity in his palm, holding a Storm Petrel chick makes Will consider the contrast between the frail young bird and the raging ocean. Muscular closer "Stormbird" balances thoughtful lyrics and the frenetic energy of the sea. Electric bass, James Mackintosh's percussion, Organ, Viola and punchy guitar allow Greenshanks to experience a powerful connection. There is definite guitar and band groove on this track, especially as Boyd-Wallis sings the final chorus, bet this will be great live. Titling the EP, on the cover Anne Von Eiff's print as a final touch the EP closes with bird chatter, placing us in the moment and making a connection.

Really enjoyed this, a warm thoughtfully constructed set of songs and performances. Old school acoustic music filled with atmosphere and purposeful storytelling and insight. The arrangements and stylings are classic, but absolutely nothing feels generic or throwaway, these are real moments delivered with warmth and genuine passion.

Can I have some more please?
