How sweet is too sweet? I used to think it was the four sugars in a cup of tea that a friend had (and it was made with evaporated milk) was far too sweet but I think the 'Let The Rain Fall' by Canadian trio Good Lovelies is sweeter even than that.

Super close three part harmonies feature on all thirteen tracks on this their third album (following on from 2009's self titled debut and the Christmas inspired 'Under the Mistletoe'). Styles range from the 1940's swing of 'Made for Rain' and 'Free' through the folky, mandolin tinged 'Old Highway' to the beautiful country love song 'Best I Know'.

Whatever style they choose to sing in, Caroline Brooks, Kerri Ough and Sue Passmore carry it off, seemingly, effortlessly. Some of these styles work better than others and, for me it is the tracks where the instruments have something nearing an equal footing with the vocals rather than just being in the background. Therefore, I find 'Best I Know' with its pair of steel guitars; 'Home' with its opening banjo and sparse drums or 'Oh, What A Thing' with its harmonica and piano solos the most pleasing on the album.
