Ipswich based singer/songwriter Marc Newby recently formed War Waves, and teaming up with Backwater Records and producer Steve Mann here presents a ten track, self titled album on which he wears his heart firmly on his sleeve....emotional, evocative, and relentless stuff from start to finish.

Influences are cited as 90's indie, The Smiths, The National, The Gaslight Anthem, and Frightened Rabbit, and that all comes through clear and loud....throw in a generous helping of post punk angst for good measure and that's about the size of it. It's good wholesome fayre this, each and every song different enough, and though there's no major stand out track, there's certainly no fillers either.....just quality songwriting, musicianship, melodies, and production throughout.

Keep an eye out for this band, they may well have a decent future, and as long as they can contain that agitation and use it rather than become engulfed in it are sure to make an impact, particularly in that indie-folk crossover minefield out there.
