Petunia, formerly Petunia And The Vipers, was a name I'd never come across and I will admit to being a little wary based on the cover art. However, the contents turned out to not be what I was expecting. The twelve tracks take a rockabilly, western, swing, country theme, almost reminiscent of the country music of the 50s, which might account for the comparisons to Hank Williams.

The musicianship is stunning and whilst I will put my hand up to not being the biggest fan of early country music, there is something charming about this collection; perhaps simply the echoes of it's musical past?

Songs such as Runaway Freight Train, Holy Budge Winters, Teardrops Rolling, Lucille and Primitive Love, demonstrate how cohesive they are musically and vocally and leave you tapping your toes somewhat subconsciously as you get caught up in the sounds and rhythms of the music.

I can imagine that this band will be very popular due to their old time style and suspect they will be a huge hit at music festivals, charming people into getting up to dance and have a good time. Maybe that sums up the music on this CD, fun, good time music which takes you back in time.
