Husband and wife duo Stu and Debbie are on tour promoting their latest album 'Live' recorded in November 2012 during their performance at Hitchin Folk Club. Sunday's show was a 'best of' concert and the duo certainly got the best out of the songs in Fordingbridge. Each punch line was savoured, each story lovingly explained and the enjoyment apparent as the pair took to the stage with their unique strain of folk music which combines traditional and contemporary influences.
Favourites such as 'Working Town', 'Fourpence A Day' and 'Smoke of Home' brought to life stories of economic recession, exploitation and feelings of homesickness and were delivered with an immeasurable volume of energy. Stu made each instrumental solo sound like an orchestral arrangement whilst Debbie's poignant and often haunting vocals added the required atmosphere.
Megson provide the perfect advert for live music. These two musicians are clearly thriving on the road breathing new life into some of their better known songs, promoting an album of songs recorded live and proving that music is better heard in the flesh.
In keeping with their ethos to support local talent, forest LIVE presented Dorset based Hannah Robinson as support at the concert. With original songs accompanied by percussive guitar playing, Hannah's vocals demonstrated effortless control and a warm, relaxed tone.
