Lucky Bones are a four piece built around Dublin singer-songwriter, Eamonn O'Connor. Like it's 2011 predecessor, "Together We Are All Alone" it was recorded out in Texas, but unlike that predecessor, which was predominantly recorded with session men, "Someone's Son" was put together by a fully fledged, fully formed band that in addition to O'Connor, consists of Leon Kennedy, Conor Miley and Peter O'Grady.

"Someone's Son", puts the Celtic story telling tradition into an album that is definitely more country/folk/rock in sound than Celtic. Similarly it also brings a certain poetry into the way the lyric has been put together giving the album a really strong sense of narrative.

There is a lot of travel and movement tied into the album, just as folk songs are often about and spread by migration, O'Connor has encapsulated that into some modern equivalence, not only covering the move west, but also throughout the British Isles.

What I really like about it is that the reasons for those moves vary from song to song, tale to tale. Journeys made to escape, journeys made for a better life and just as the reason for the journey may vary, so do the outcomes.

It is not just an album about people, he also hits some politically sensitive head on, "Born To A Holy Land" is a scathing attack on the hypocrisy of the events in the Middle East, the wars and suffering, the contrast of sending emergency humanitarian aid to refugees whilst providing military aid to the people driving them from their homes.

The narrative is performed against a backdrop of sound that has taken influence from both sides of the Atlantic, but is closer to home in America where it was recorded. "Someone's Son" is an intriguing and solid album, packed full of well written, mature songs that entertain and intrigue.
