This is a just a small insight into my time at the Lancaster Music Festival now in its 5th year, a community run free festival with over 30 venues, and over a hundred acts, all taking place in lots of quirky little pubs in the Historical City of Lancaster. We had an itinerary to adhere to; we wanted to cram as much in. Our night started in the Ring O Bells where HEIDRUM a foot stomping acoustic roots band from The North East Of Scotland played covers, ballads and reels it was all going on. Heidrum rocked the little pub; it was full to bursting with lots of happy smiling faces all enjoying the music. We rocked along with the rest of the pub singing along with the men in kilts. I loved their Travelling Soldier rendition.

Onto the next Venue a short walk away, The Bobbin, to see Emmott and The Folkestra. We managed to gain prime position to see the energetic, Punk Folk tight 6 piece band from Colne, with Mandolin, Guitars, Banjo, Drums, Bass, wow this was an awesome gig they played a full set of original material. The Pub was full to bursting and as soon as they struck the first chord the pub was jumping along with them. The stand out tracks I loved was 1st Stone, Idle Hands, Love lust, and Steady Away, which is soon to be released as a Single before Christmas. These guys are ones to watch out for they are a hard working bunch gigging all over Lancashire, with much success at Festivals over the summer at Langdale Charity Folk Festival and Colne Blues Festival to name a few.

The next Venue on our list The Robert Gillow Pub open 24 hours, where The Balkanics an amazing 7 piece Lancastrian band with fiddles, bouzouki, trombone, cello, accordion, whistles, flutes, guitars , percussion. Another packed to the rafter's pub, with folk dancing on tables and the whole place was in a party mood, they blew me away they were fantastic.

This was just a little snippet of my time at Lancaster Music Festival it was only one night. But a night filled with great people and fantastic musicians, it is in my diary for next year( Oct 9th-13th) where I aim to do the whole weekend, Lancaster Music Festival Rocks.
