Here in Northumberland we like to celebrate Christmas a little differently, forget about your thermals, hats, scarf and gloves.

Tonight in the Queens Hall Theatre at Hexham I had to slap on my sun cream and grab my shades and surfboard to be ready for a real winter warmer hosted by Jez Lowe and The Bad Pennies.

It was a night of festive folk with The Bad Pennies- Kate Bramley, Andy May, David De La Haye (Monster Ceilidh Band) and special guest Benny Graham.

I truly could appreciate the North East music that was being played tonight, Northumbrian pipes is something you won't be able to hear anywhere else other than in Northumberland and with the accompaniment of a range of acoustics I quite enjoyed being taken on a journey. Drifting nay sailing away along the Tyne with some local songs that I and the audience were able to sing-along to.

Although their predictions of the weather results may have been slightly overcast I did enjoy this Christmas Beach Bash. It was an intimate performance,I felt like it was as though we were all sat around a camp-fire with a special version of Desert Island Disks playing harmoniously in the background.

Jez Lowe has written extensively for the BBC Radio 2 'Radio Ballads' series and with his original yet witty songs it was refreshing to hear some seasonal classics from all across the North-east .
