For some reason whenever we go to gigs, there is always a spanner in the works that threatens our timekeeping, (one of my pet hates is being late), and this time it was the alternator. Luckily this was fixed in record time and after pressganging my brother in law into going to this gig with me which I hasten to add may have been a delay tactic on his part, I think he was secretly hoping I may change my mind. Due to my little sis being unavailable, her works Christmas party beckoned, he was going whether he wanted to or not.

Luckily we arrived with ample time to spare, and anyone going to a gig at the Brewery Arts Centre a little tip, certain car parks after 6pm are free, always a bonus.

The Destroyers normally a 14 piece collective, there was eleven members tonight, hailing from Birmingham descended on The Malt Room, hit the stage with a blaze of Trombone, trumpets, horns, fiddles, guitars, drums, bass and clarinet. They started as they meant to go on they made the crowd in the Malt Room Party the audience went wild from the first tune.

They describe their genre of music as Megafolk. So true they were absolutely MEGA. A fusion of Balkan, Celtic tunes whipping the crowd into frenzy, it was lovely to see a wide range of ages at a gig, all bouncing around. The energy emanating from each band member had me questioning how they could keep that level up, but they sure did on every tune.

Each member of the bands personality shone through, showcasing a great mix of musicians all on one stage for our enjoyment. The highlights for me were Musical statues, The Trombone Song, and the Merchandise song. An astounding night with an amazing Band, I will definitely catch them again when they are up north.
