The night consisted of two sets both played by the formidable, Clive Carroll. Both included raw emotion that was brought out by his exceptional technical playing.

The setlist was rather sporadic at times, due to his varied tastes in music which was also reflected in his compositions. He spanned the depth and breath of western art music with his suite for two guitars, (or in this case a guitar and loop pedal) based on music from the Renaissance era as well as the only solo classical guitar piece written by Benjamin Britten, Nocturnal. He also played some traditional irish tunes from the west coast, a composition inspired by rock band, the Foo Fighters and a standard in both the Gypsy and Classical music world, Csárdas by Vittorio Monty amongst others.

Unfortunately, Carroll had a strong dose of the flu on the night but didn’t let him effect his playing. He delivered a fine night of music which was relatively well attended by an audience that included some very dedicated fans that were shouted out requests at the two encores that he did.

A very enjoyable night indeed!!
