Artist:Sarah Jane Rimmer Rimmer tells us that "the Parrot Club takes its name from my Grandmother's friendship group in the 1940s. They would meet once a month and the husbands nicknamed them the Parrot Club due to all the chatter!" With Leanne Miller's piano as the only accompaniment throughout the emphasis is on Rimmer's voice, which is more than equal to the holding up these stories of 3 women's lives. Apple Cake for Adeline, Maggie Met a Man and Victor Silvester look at the individual lives "exploring themes of family relationships, domestic abuse, and finding moments to live your passion and dreams. The title track weaves all 3 stories together in a celebration of the power of lasting female friendships."
The almost inevitable Kate Bush influence on her singing is apparent, but never dominant. Just using Miller's piano to back her words could make the music sound one dimensional, it never does. The celebratory feel of the title song at the end of the EP is the highlight of this too short release. As Rimmer is also a Banjo player we can look forward to something different next time, and it will be welcome when it comes along.
