Jessica Lynn’s latest album will only serve to cement her reputation as a force of nature in the arena of modern music. Considered primarily as a country singer, it is fair to say that she is so much more than this and her rocky voice lends itself to both fast and slow tempo music. Her debut album “Lone Rider,” which I also had the pleasure of reviewing, reached number 1 in the digital sales country charts and number 5 in the all-genre chart in the United States.
Over the last five years, her touring record has become the envy of many having supported artists such as Richard Marx, Keith Urban, Lonestar and Loretta Lynn among numerous others. Her solo tours have resulted in sold out venues and appreciative audiences. Jessica is not only a fine musician but has been recognised for her humanitarian work.
The songs on this new album have all been written by Jessica with a few co-writers, and include a fine mix of styles and tempos. “All I Own” the title track is a superb example of a musician at the top of her game with its Nashville influenced arrangement. Whether belting out a rock number or slowing it right down, Jessica brings a unique and instantly recognisable sound to each song. Her vocals are quite simply stunning, and her arrangements are outstanding. “Mixed Signals” finds Jessica rocking along with the best. “Shame” has the feel of Carlos Santana running through it. “You Save me” contains some sumptuous harmonies.
The final track “I Never Said It’d Be Easy” closes the album in perfect fashion, taking the listener on an imaginary journey to The Grand Ole Opry for what would be a stand-up finale. Some brilliant guitar work in this one! Produced by Peter Calamera and Jessica, the end result is an album of genuine quality and staying power.
Despite it being the beginning of January, I doubt that I will hear too many albums as good as this one in 2025. Great start to a new year of music.
