The Fatea office also serves as a home for our weekly Along The Tracks show on Blues & Roots Radio and as a rule singles and Eps have generally gone in that direction whilst Fatea generally concentrates on albums and live reviews for our full length feature, but with more artists going back down the single route to keep themselves in the public eye, we thought it was time to reflect that in our offerings and as rules are made to be broken or at the very least adapted, welcome to the Singles Round Up.
Elles Bailey - Mumma And Me

"I'm very proud of 'Mumma and Me'," says Elles, "It was written during the first couple of weeks of lockdown, as a gift to my mother for Mother's Day (whom I of course, couldn't see). Inspired by our unique personalities and her unconditional love, I truly feel I captured her spirit in this song." In common with her previous single Long Road Ahead this is gentler than her normal fare abut her voice combines with Hammond and strings to produce soulful song that ranks among the best British soul songs, including Dusty. A Polish born, Paris based, architect in another life, Aure also has a neat line on atmospheric soundscapes along the lines of This Mortal Coil or Mazzy Star. Her voice is somewhere around latter day Franciose Hardy in tone, she's backed by a delicate blend of piano, and guitar. She's been raising some gentle waves in Europe, 3 singles into her career and with an EP to follow. Catch up with this timeless sound soon. TM
Water Street - Carolina

New jersey band Water Street say they are creating "a new version of Americana, mixing soulful acoustic melodies with rugged rock and roll bursts, enticing bluegrass mandolin riffs, and a driving rhythm section with some hints of funk which combine to create a uniquely new, Pop/Americana/Roots sound." the resulting sound is far more coherent than that description suggests, taking the best of their influences and creating a joyful engaging sound. Darcey Hope - Let You Listen To Me
darceyhope.comPop rather than folk singer songwriter Darcy Hope was featured on the BBC's Glastonbury coverage and this new single is the latest in a line of well written songs that should attract more attention in the right places. The slightly menacing electric guitar adds bite to the tune which stops it becoming too bland. There is a timeless quality to the song and the production. Old Radio 2 would have loved it… TM
David San Clair - Juni

A slightly 60s feel runs through this new single from the Irish singer songwriter. He describes it as "a song I wrote about a future daughter. It is somewhat a time-capsule song, something I will show Juni in about 10-20 years' time". Violin gives the tune a folk feel at odds with the indie rock sound of the rest of the tune. I'm sure his daughter will be well pleased with this being named after her when she gets to hear it. TM
Sean Taylor - I'm Ready But I Forgot

A pared back production puts the focus on Taylor's words, which are well worth hearing. The song, covers the theme of altzheimers and the gradual loss of a loved. The choir of Greive Primary School join to sing one chorus with him. As a singer songwriter stretching the genre into an unusual place Taylor is more than worth a listen. TM
Frenchy And The Punk - Cities In Dust

A faithful rendition of the Siouxsie and the Banshees classic from this New York based New Wave band. If you close your eyes, you could almost be listening to the original except for the slightly deeper vocal. It's the song's 38th anniversary so clearly a time to celebrate. If their intention is to remind you how good the Banshees were then job done. TM
