This month's Listen Up feature puts the spotlight on Linda Moylan.
About Linda Moylan
Linda is a unique singer/songwriter her music skilfully blends the traditions of Celtic narrative, smoky folk and contemporary blues. Her songs speak hauntingly of life experienced and truly felt; this is music for grown-ups. Her latest album 'Ordinary Merchant produced by Phil Beer from Show of Hands is available now.
How would you describe your music?
Thats a tricky one I guess as soulful folk, music written from the heart, stories about my life and my experiences. Each song is an individual and kind of dictates how we arrange and perform it. the common thread I guess is the story and voice. Musical influences vary from Nina Simone to the Fureys as an Irish woman who was brought up in East London both have a place within my work and I feel the most recent release "The Merchant "shows this.
What has been your highlight so far?
Ian Montague (my one man band and music partner) and I were at a charity event and Ronnie Wood came up to me and told me we were really good that was pretty special and I know you said one but I have to mention my friend Julie Felix . Working with Julie was truly transformative and she really helped me to understand the importance of following your own path in music.
What plans regarding recordings, video, tours etc do you have for the future?
We are currently still promoting our album "The Merchant "that was produced by the wonderful Phil Beer. We have just performed at the Water Rats, London with Phil and the very talented Odette Michelle to celebrate the life and music of Julie Felix . As well as gigging we are writing and are hoping to start recording are next album with Phil early next year.
Is there anything else you would like to say or any message to our readers?
That we hope to get know your readers while we are out and about on our musical travels, and even though it seems like a millennia away we are on the introducing stage at the Great British Folk Festival in Sunny Skegness , if they happen to be going do come and say hi we'd love to hear from them.
