Jenny Colquitt is a singer, musician and songwriter hailing from Widnes, Cheshire whose live online performances throughout Lockdown have gained her a widening reputation and fanbase, she is currently promoting her latest EP 'Dear Daughter' as well as releasing a Charity Single 'Captain Thomas Moore' to raise funds for The Captain Tom Foundation.
About You
I am part time singer/songwriter from Widnes, North West England. I have 2 EPs out so far; 'The Quiet Kind' (2016) and 'Dear Daughter' (2020) as well as a charity single I recently released called 'Captain Thomas Moore' (2021) in tribute to Country's hero Captain Tom. At the moment I do this part-time alongside my job in the NHS. In COVID times I have taken to live streaming to meet my performance needs and I am very regular streamer on Facebook, YouTube and Twitch. I am fortunate to now be partnered with YouTube and an Affiliate on Twitch. Alongside my solo career I am also the lead singer/songwriter for my newly formed band 'Elysian', we are in the baby phases of forming our sound but we have been often described as 'similar to Fleetwood Mac and Dire Straits'.
How would you describe your music?
I studied Psychology at The University of Liverpool and I think comes through in my songs as they are often described as thought provoking and introspective. My music is a convolution of Folk, Americana, Blues and Country although I try to think of myself more as a 'patchwork quilt' of genres. I feel I am still on my journey as a songwriter as I am constantly finding new depths within my own writing which is progressing with styles as I go.
What has been your highlight so far?
Although this seems a strange answer, my highlight has been finding a new following online through COVID times. I have made connections that would have never been possible before I took the new approach of live streaming. It would be a massive oversight to not focus on the positives of these relationships as being the light in these dark times.
What plans regarding recordings, video, tours etc do you have for the future?
I am recording my first full-length album and releasing that this year. I plan on gigging as much as I can following this however of course due to the way things are at the moment I am not going to put too much pressure on this. I guess I will just be focussing on growing a following online and putting out as much music as I can until normality is reached.
Is there anything else you would like to say or any message to our readers?
Thank you for keeping music alive during these times. If it weren't for people listening, watching, supporting and tipping musicians at the moment, the industry would be completely shot. There will be an end to this and there is a bright future ahead for us as artists and you as listeners and supporters!
