The Staves
The Staves made their Cambridge Folk Festival debut last year playing the rising artists stage, The Den. It seems to have served them well as the step up into a full festival performance. Of course being seen doing a good performance at this year's SXSW can't do them any harm.
The trio, Emily, Jessica and Camilla, have a number of EP releases under their belt and will be touring extensively during the Spring and Summer, both here as headliners and in Canada and the US as support for Bon Iver.
Soundwise it's quite difficult to place The Staves, yes there are strong elements of Americana that run through their tight harmonies and delicately arranged instrumentation, but that is by no means the whole story. When listening to their recent "Mexico EP" I couldn't help but hear a more Anglicised Dorus Day in the sound.
I've yet to hear The Staves live, but what I've heard of their studio work has impressed and I'm looking forward to this one.
