Clannad
Clannad last played Cambridge back in 1991. In those days the mainstage moved outside for the afternoon performances and the band played in glorious sunshine. Moya had recently married Cambridge photographer Tim Jarvis and soon after announced that she was expecting their first child. Fatea was exlusively a paper magazine in those days.
By then, Clannad had already had an eighteen year recording career with another seven to come before they initially called it a day around 1998. During that time they effectively redefined aspects of Irish music and were credited with taking it into new age. Film sound tracks and television music wouldn't quite be the same again. When asked about the sound Ciaran once replied "There's a feeling in all our music an ambience that stems directly from where we were brought up and to have to define our sound I always say that if they were to visit Gweedore they wouldn't need to ask."
When they donated the profits from their single "Almost Seems (Too Late To Turn) to Children In Need, back in 1985, Clannad had given the organisation it's first official single and have been involved in a number of chritable projects before and since.
The five original members of Clannad have been back in the studio recording their first album in a good number of years and I for one am looking forward to welcoming them back.
