Secret Sisters
Like Seasick Steve and to a lesser extent Imelda May, the Secret Sisters shot to prominence following an appear on The Jools Holland Hootenanny.
A self-titled debut album was followed by a support tour with Ray LaMontagne & The Pariah Dogs and then dates with them in the headline slots. A trademark of their support tour was the minimalist approach they took to instrumentation, sharing one guitar between them on stage and swapping it between songs. Then again, as with the album, it's the blood harmonies that blow you away.
The Secret Sisters are genuine sisters, Laura and Lydia Rogers, that hail from Muscle Shoals, Alabama. As with many US Country singers, the duo learnt most of their singing in church and turned professional almost by accident after blowing the judges away at a talent contest in Nashville.
The band are making their Cambridge debut this year and should be high on the must see for everyone that likes a good mix of county as the girls have a sound that pretty much ranges from the 1920s, through the 50s and up to the here and now.
