Lau
If you're looking for the definition of a folk power trio, look no further than Lau. Their debut album "Lightweights & Gentlemen" pretty much proved they weren't either, heavyweight bruisers, was a more apt description. They've subsequently won Radio Two Folk Award's best group, twice, no mean feat.
One of the reasons for the band's success, aside from the quality of the musicians, Kris Drever(guitar/vocal), Aidan O'Rourke(fiddle) and Martin Green(accordion) is their ability to draw on the finest of music traditions on both sides of the Anglo Scots border. Add to that their songwriting ability, the new album, "Arc Light" is pretty much drawn from the bands own pens, and you can see why they've rapidly become festival favourites, both in the UK and much further affield.
As with most folk acts, all the musicians of Lau play in other projects, some of which can be found at this year's festival, but it really is a case of the sum of the parts and the total is unbelievable for a three piece.
