Folkstock Records has just announced a new signing to their (perhaps not so) fledgling label. This act is also a new pairing, and it's fair to say that Tobias ben Jacob and Lukas Drinkwater have been causing a stir on their debut tour across southern England this January.
Intent on not wasting any time, label boss Helen Meissner has arranged for the duo to record the double A side single 'Burning Low/ Autosong' which is being rush released on 24th March, ahead of an EP in early summer.
Having seemingly crossed paths at many venues and festivals over the years but never actually met; the duo's eventual, timely encounter with one another in an Exeter bar last June would set the scene for what would become a compelling and fast evolving musical collaboration. Less than a week later that they would debut the set on stage at Glastonbury Festival! The reaction from the audience sealed their fate and now their masterful, inventive delivery is mesmerizing all who encounter them. Given the duo's pairing of acoustic guitar and double bass, Tobias' heartfelt and passionate vocals and the virtuosic and often unpredictable nature of the live show they are already drawing comparisons with such acoustic luminaries as John Martyn and Danny Thompson.
A March tour is planned where Tobias and Lukas will be joined on many of the dates by Folkstock star on the ascent Kelly Oliver.
The single release party will be held at the The Prince Albert, Stroud on Tuesday 24th March.
There are only so many hours in a day and only so many gigs we can get to. We'd really like to expand our national coverage of the live scene as it remains the life blood of music.
