The Soldier And The Maid (Exclusive Launch)

Fatea is really pleased to have been the chosen premier for Said The Maiden's new video and our Radio Show, Along The Tracks as first radio play for the single just part of all the happening around the trio at the moment

Said The Maiden are Jess Distill, Hannah Elizabeth and Kathy Pilkinton, three friends who discovered a mutual love of folk music when they reunited several years after spending their school years together in St. Albans, Hertfordshire. From tentatively performing a few songs at their local Redbourn Folk club in 2012 and later being asked to appear at one of the club's guest nights, the group soon secured support and headline slots at folk clubs and festivals around the country which in turn have led to opportunities to support many fantastic artists including The Fisherman's Friends, Jim Moray, Megson, Martin Carthy, Sam Carter, Hannah James and Sam Sweeney, and Clannad. They were also honoured to join legendary fiddler Dave Swarbrick on a successful UK solo tour in the spring of 2014, and released their debut album 'A Curious Tale' in June of the same year.

Earlier this year, Said The Maiden was awarded Bristol Folk Festival's prestigious Isambard Folk Award, and as a result opened for folk super-group The Full English at the 2015 Bristol Folk Festival.

'Of Maids and Mariners' is the new EP by Said The Maiden. With two new studio tracks recorded and produced by Stu Hanna of Megson and two live tracks recorded at Redbourn Folk Club, the new release is a showcase of how Said The Maiden has developed and grown over the last year or so, displaying more than ever the distinctive sound that defines them - from soaring acapella harmonies and fresh new arrangements of traditional songs, to their own compositions inspired by sea songs and shanties. The EP will be released officially on 13 December 2015 and will be available to buy from www.saidthemaiden.co.uk or at gigs, directly from Said The Maiden's colourful merchandise suitcase!

The group has also worked with Rodeax Films to create a music video for 'The Soldier and the Maid'. The video can be viewed here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nI1SS3yAbGE

Said The Maiden has been running a Pledge Music campaign to help with funding for all of their most recent projects, the closing date for which is 10 December. Without the generosity of the people that have pledged and the support of those who have helped spread the word, we would not have been able to have the privilege of working with such fantastic and talented people. We would like to thank everyone for their continued support - it means so much to us.

There is still time to pledge if you haven't already done so, and we are yet to reach our target. Please visit www.pledgemusic.com/projects/saidthemaiden to find out more.

Gig Reviews

There are only so many hours in a day and only so many gigs we can get to. We'd really like to expand our national coverage of the live scene as it remains the life blood of music.

Are you able to help us and the artist you're seeing out by dropping us a review once you get back home, and maybe even a picture. If you are able to help, Mail Us your review and we'll get it up as quick as we can
