Wilderland is the third album to be released by the singer songwriter duo of Paul Zervas and Kathryn Pepper. Hailing from the south coast of Wales the duo are purveyors of some of the finest harmonised folk rock I have had the pleasure of listening to in a very long time.
The album has more of a feeling of lazy evenings on the west coast of America rather than the south coast of Wales. As you listen you can here snippets of such great bands such as Crosby Stills Nash and Young, America and even at times a little bit of Led Zeppelin. Perhaps it was this that caught the ear of David Crosby who is on record singing their praises. What an accolade, how do you follow that.
Well I had better try hadn't I, the whole album is exquisite, superbly executed with fine lyrics, the harmonized vocals are to die for and the musicianship is of the finest order. For me stand out songs are, and i must admit very had to pick, Rose of Jerchio, Dark Matter and Class of 96. This does not mean the other tracks are in any way inferior, believe me they are not. It is just these songs are my own personal favourites.
This album oozes class and talent at every chord, lyric and key change. If I could have just written a review that said buy it buy it now i would have done.
So my closing words as i drift along a west coast highway with the Sun setting and the wind in my hair are buy it buy it now, you won't regret it.
