Norwegian singer Hanne Kolsto and pianist Andreas Stensland Lowe recorded in the Toyenkirke in Oslo combine to produce an austere (yes, that word in Nordic context again) set of crisp clarity. The acoustics of the church give full play to the tone of the piano and Kolsto's voice with occasional harmonies from (one presumes) Lowe.
The songs are in English which perhaps detracts from concentration on the sound, and the lyrics are not to my ear the most arresting. This is, however, mature music which may appeal to fans of stage musicals, and the final track "Someone Else" in particular has a bleak beauty to it.
