This is the first release as The Black Guards(previously The Blagards), a 6 piece alt-fock, roots/Country band based in Cumbria. The title track Drawn in was recently released as a single, which has had good reviews and much radio play. This track is a melodic look at teenage disappointment and realisation that the world is not as honest and true as it seems to be. A great song, set off by Paul O'Halloran with a laid back beat from Andrew Bates. The fiddle and banjo round off the sound as the song progresses. A great opening track.

The Ballad of Mrs O is much more up tempo, a song which will, no doubt, be a real crowd pleaser live. The song is about how the long days toil for little reward is the love and support of a significant other makes it all worthwhile

Track 3, Karma, has a different feel altogether. Gypsy style fiddle and an almost central European feel is very different to the rest of the EP. A story of one looking for love but being disappointed.

Finally, Boat cuts the Water, evokes images of boats cutting through still water opening with Anne Marie McStraw's pipes. This final track brings the EP back to a more folky conclusion.

A great first release from this Alt-Folk/Country band, I am looking forward to a full album and the opportunity to see them live.
