A look at some of the emerging artists of the acoustic roots & folk circuit, this week we focus on Sandy McLelland who throughout a long and respected music career he has contributed to the artistic achievements of numerous artists and projects all over the world. Capable and comfortable across many, diverse, musical styles, Sandy his currently promoting his current single 'We Always will' from his forthcoming debut album.
How would you describe your music ?
I think it's awkward for me to describe the music very accurately. For songs that are so simple, there seems to be a real collision of influences at work. For the most part acoustic, there are flavours of country and blues, certainly a good measure of rock and soul into the bargain. I haven't chosen these ingredients. Rather they have picked me. I suppose all to do with early influences in my hometown of Glasgow, a huge trading port with America. The city was awash with American music, in the bars, clubs and dancehalls. Once it's in, it's in..
What has been your highlight so far?
It's interesting to consider this. For me the biggest thrill has come from the accumulation of positive responses to the music from all over the world. This really is a cottage industry. I write it, arrange it, play it, sing it, produce, record and mix it. Then it's time to see if anyone other than me is interested. Make no mistake though this is what I do. First of all I have to like it, believe in it, come what may. However it has been amazing to have received so much support on the strength of so little, thus far....
What plans regarding recordings, video, tours etc do you have for the future?
There will shortly be another video and second single from the album, 'Cross The Line' which will be released in the Spring. The idea is simply to get out in front of as many people as I can and play my music. If I have any USP it is that I can sing it and play it live. It's what I like the best.
Is there anything else you would like to say or any message to our readers ?
It's enough that your readers will have taken time to look at this. Thanks to them. If they stay in touch I'll try not to disappoint. If I'm playing somewhere near you, please come along and be sure to say hello. BIG love.x
