Two stunning female singer songwriters favoured and played by Whispering Bob Harris on BBC Radio 2, Kelly Oliver and Norwich based Lisa Redford are on the same bill tomorrow, in an unexpected change of line up caused by the ill health of Marina Florance. Lisa Redford, a well known voice in her adopted home town, partly thanks to her popular respected regular music feature in the Norwich paper Eastern Daily Press, has generously stepped into the breach to provide Kelly Oliver's only date in East Anglia at the Bicycle Shop with a wonderful opening set.
Kelly's 18 date national tour has been garnering great reviews "Kelly Oliver is a treasured young folk singer equipped with the three tangible essentials of great songs, beautiful vocals and fine playing. However the finishing touch which makes Kelly such a special talent is that innate ability to captivate a listener's attention, and for an hour tonight a privileged gathering succumbed to the charm of her artistry." Thee Chords and the Truth.
The album itself is rumoured to be reviewed in the Sunday Times Culture Magazine this coming Sunday 6th and has been gathering a joyous reaction and Album of the Week and Month status from various music blogs and radio stations including Neil King's Along the Tracks and has been reviewed by FATEA
"this is an album bursting with quality, great songs and superb production from a lady with a remarkable voice" Rory Stanbridge FATEA http://www.fatea-records.co.uk/magazine/2016/KellyOliver.html
"One of the first significant folk releases out of the blocks in 2016....this album is a triumph. It's inevitable success is thoroughly deserved" Rob Bridge Redwood. "What an absolute treat the new album from Kelly Oliver. It is at once bouncy, thoughtful, familiar (to those of us who have listened to Kelly's previous work) and different. The whole has a feeling of freshness and innovation with Kelly's beautiful and distinctive voice and her interesting story telling" Liz Franklin
Headliner Kelly Oliver whom Bob praises as a 'an emerging voice in British Folk' has also said, after one of her four plays on his Radio 2 show, that she has a 'beautiful, pure voice'.Kelly is in the midst of her national headline tour for Bedlam, her second album, which is released on Sunday 6th March (Mothering Sunday). Her first album This Land gained a place in the finals of our 'Debut Album of the Year 2014' as well as an Emerging Excellence Award from Help Musicians UK. The Sunday Times has praised Kelly's live performance saying it was 'a fine set, Kelly Oliver blends traditional values with bold indie pop' and Kelly has just been announced as part of the line up for Cambridge Folk Festival with a coveted showcase, which is the icing on the cake of what is turning out to be a choice selection of festivals this coming summer.
Lisa Redford has gained much praise for her Americana/Folk songs and is regarded as "one of our finest singer/songwriters" by Bob Harris, BBC Radio 2 who has had Lisa into his Radio 2 show twice for a live session, and Maverick Magazine had this to say, in addition to giving her a 4* review "In a sea of smart female singer-songwriters, Lisa Redford is an admiral.' Glenn Tilbrook is a fan "Brilliant! Lisa has a great voice" and Americana UK had this to add "There is a warmth and welcoming vibe to Redford's music that really is difficult to resist". Lisa is about to release an EP so there might be a chance to hear her much anticipated new material.
