If songwriting talent were heroin Madison Violet would have tracks up both arms, would od on a regular basis and be unable to find a vein. The girls victory in the John Lennon Songwriting Award, as announced during the girls set at a crowded Bournemouth Folk Club, pays real testament to their exceptional talent in that arena and,as the evening and two sets, showed, they are no mean talents when it comes to delivering their material and the occasional cover.
There's more than a slight quirkiness to Madison Violet's delivery, its one of the thing that gives them a distinctive sound and gives them a real differentiate from other artists working in the Americana space.
Both girls come from large families and smallish towns in Canada and it gives them a slant on songwriting that you might not get from a small family in a large affluent area. The key is to get an audience from those large towns to relate to those songs, and boy did they achieve that.
Regardless of the song they were delivering, light-hearted or deep from the heart, you felt there was a real truth in the delivery of their songs, as though they still feel every word.
It makes for a great show and a great show is what we got, well technically two as they split their set into two halves.
The stage at Bournemouth Folk Club, taking them close to their audience which enabled them to crank up the atmosphere getting rhythmic claps and accompanying vocals from the audience going with a natural ease
Madison Violet showed why they are becoming familiar to more and more people and if word of mouth from gigs like this add to that fan base, it's good news all around.
Top Americana, eloquently delivered, with one or two earthy tones. Top night.
